This rise can be attributed to the impressive performances displayed by the Vietnamese squad during their World Cup 2022 qualifiers as they enjoyed two victories against Malaysia and Indonesia.
The victories allowed the team to add 14 points to their overall tally, leaving them with a total of 1245 points.
Behind Vietnam as the second-best team in Southeast Asia are Thailand. They are currently ranked 109th in the world rankings following their victory over the UAE which earned them an additional 18 points. At present, the Thai team have 1193 points.
Elsewhere in the region, the Philippines added four points to their tally to move up one place to 126th in the world, while Myanmar and Singapore both fell two places to 147th and 159th, respectively. Meanwhile, Malaysia remained in 158th position.
Following their two losses in their World Cup 2022 qualification campaign, Indonesia fell four places to 171st place, followed by Cambodia in 172nd place, Laos in 189th place, Brunei in 191st place, and Timor-Leste in 198th place.
