The bomb measures 0.42m in diameter and 1.26m in length and was found at a depth of 1.5m on a cinnamon hill owned by Nguyen Quang Hoa, a local resident in Tan Thanh hamlet, Yen Thai commune, Van Yen district on August 23.

Provincial sappers identified the bomb as one of a type used by the US army from 1968-1970 during the past war in northern Vietnam.

As many as 70 officers and soldiers were mobilized to guard the bomb before moving it to another area for deactivation to ensure the safety of residents.
