The Malaysian Transport Ministry said a group of experts from both the government and the carrier had investigated and concluded the debris does not match that of a Boeing 777.The announcement came one day after Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation revealed that the piece of metal found off the coast of Thailand on January 23 may belong to a missile used for launching satellites.

The disappearance of MH370 is one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history. It vanished with 239 people on board during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014. Investigators believe the plane went down in a remote area of the Indian Ocean.In July last year, a piece of the plane washed up on the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean but no further trace has been found.
