The last memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation was signed in 2006 and they discussed updating the agreement and seeking mutual tourism investment opportunities as both countries have experienced increased tourist flows in recent years.

They both expressed hope that a new MOU would catalyse new areas of cooperation in the tourism sector and they talked about including a provision to work closely with other ministries to soon open direct flights between Hanoi and Jakarta. They also agreed that Vietnam and Indonesia should continue to explore new opportunities to work together, particularly in the cultural, sports and people-to-people areas to promote tourism between the two nation’s peoples.
