In the eight months leading up to September, imports shot up 100% in volume and 132% in value to 74,000 new vehicles at US$1.9 billion, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Dealerships imported 9,000 autos and light duty trucks at roughly US$194 million in August alone the GSO reported— an ominous sign for the market hinting that they see continued economic growth for the industry.
