Final procedures are in process clearing the way for them to become the second fruit from the Southeast Asian nation permitted into the country, said the newspaper. In 2015, the government of Australia lifted the ban on the import of lychees.

However, all other fruit will remain restricted.

There has been ‘significant improvements’ in the mango export system of Vietnam over the past 12 years and as a result the Australian Department of agriculture will soon begin issuing licenses to qualified businesses allowing mangoes into the country.

The decision demonstrates the marked improvements the country has made to its export system and it is important that these standards are maintained so trade can continue, the paper quoted the Vietnam Trade Counsellor to Australia as having said.
