All of the local athletes scheduled to compete in the games are in good form to bring glory to the fatherland, according to Nguyen Hong Minh, head of the Vietnamese Paralympic team.

Vietnam has sent a 15-member contingent to Tokyo, including seven athletes who will compete in swimming, weightlifting, and track-and-field.

The opening ceremony will see a maximum of two athletes and one coach from each sport in attendance.

Trinh Thi Bich Nhu is the first Vietnamese athlete to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, as she will show off her skills in the women’s 50m freestyle S6 on August 25.

The same day, Nhu’s teammate Vo Thanh Tung will compete in the men’s 200m freestyle S5. 

Medal hopeful weightlifter Le Van Cong, who won the country’s first Paralympics gold medal back in Rio 2016, will compete in the men’s 49kg category on August 26.

The Paralympic Games, scheduled to last until September 5, will feature the participation of thousands of athletes worldwide to compete in 540 events across 22 different sports.
