Vietnam are currently the top of Group G in the second qualifying round with 17 points, two ahead of the UAE. The team will progress to the third stage as group leaders as long as they avoid defeat to the UAE on June 15.
In the event that Vietnam lose to the UAE, then they will still have a great chance of making the final qualifying round as they can finish among the five best second-placed teams.
The final qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup will consist of 12 teams divided into two groups of six teams each. The sides will then play each other home and away in order to decide the top two nations from each group who go on to advance to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The two third-placed teams in each group will then face off against each other to decide on the final slot.
The third qualifying round is scheduled to be held from September 2 to March 29, 2022.
