The hosts quickly controlled the game after the referee’s whistle. Van Quyet and his teammates had a few scoring opportunities in the first half, but they were unable to capitalize on them.

After the break, coach Park Hang-seo made several substitutions and many were created, but it was not enough for Vietnamese players to break up the Philippines’ solid defense line.

In the last 10 minutes of the match, Vietnamese players mainly made long passes and tried to reach the opponents’ goal as quickly as possible. However, they could not cause any difficulty for the Filipino goalkeeper as Tien Linh, Van Duc or Van Quyet did not show the necessary cohesion.

But in the second minute of injury time, Van Quyet’s pass made the ball touch a Filipino defender and deflect straight into the goal.

Vietnam also stunned Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in another friendly game two weeks ago.

Both friendlies are considered big tests for coach Park Hang-seo and his players before they begin their quest for the championship title at the AFF Cup 2022 from December 23 to January 16.

Vietnam have been drawn in Group B and they will play two away matches against Laos and Singapore on December 21 and December 30, respectively. They will then play at home against Malaysia on December 27 and Myanmar on January 3, 2023.

The 2022 AFF Cup is Park’s final tournament in his capacity as chief coach. The Vietnam Football Federation earlier announced that the Korean expert would no longer coach the national team after the AFF Cup. His contract is to expire in January 2023.
