According to the AFC, Van Toan is highly rated in his homeland and was duly handed the number one jersey for the Vietnam senior side’s recent World Cup qualifier against Oman.

It adds that due to Dang Van Lam’s injury, the 21-year-old Hai Phong goal keeper will be keen to hold down the position moving forward.

“With senior team head coach Park Hang-seo also helming the U-23 side, Van Toan has another chance to impress in the games ahead,” states the website.

At the tournament in Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam are scheduled to play in Group I alongside Myanmar and Taiwan (China). They are due to take on Taiwan (China) and Myanmar on October 27 and October 31, respectively.
