According to details given by Kim Kwang-jea, physio for Hanoi FC, his old knee injury has yet to fully recover, therefore he must undergo surgery to solve the issue, with this set to take several months to recover from.

A torn meniscus has been a major problem for Van Hau since he got injured in a game for Hanoi FC back in September last year. Although he previously underwent surgery, he then came back too early and exacerbated the injury.

Van Hau was called up to the national team in early August for training, although he was unable to practice with the rest of the squad and only trained with the team’s doctor because of an ongoing issue.

At the time, the team’s physios said it would take at least a month for Van Hau to fully recover from his injury, meaning he missed the game against Saudi Arabia.

However, his upcoming surgery will now mean he will definitely miss the rest of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
