After gaining an advantage by holding the white pawn, Liem (Elo rating 2714) controlled the game and enjoyed an impressive victory over Demuth Adrien (Elo rating 2517) who was beaten in 38 moves.

Previously, the Vietnamese chess master had no trouble in beating Tarvo Seeman of Estonia (Elo rating of 2386) in the first round of the competition.

After his two wins, Liem is ranked in third place in the medal tally.

He will meet Vaibhav Suri of India (Elo rating 2590) in the third round on January 24.
