The latest victory added 4.5 points to the squad’s ranking, lifting the total number of points to 1,231.

If Vietnam secure a victory against Curacao and retains its position as the 15th highest-ranked team in Asia, the squad will be listed in Group 2 during the draw for qualification to the 2022 World Cup along with Syria, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, and Oman.

Being put in Group 2 will mean Vietnam avoid the continent’s stronger teams and eases the path to the final qualifying round.

The nation’s high point in the rankings came in 1998, when Vietnam climbed to 84th place in the FIFA rankings.
