The 17-year-old chess player will next face off against Jain Jeet of India (Elo rating 2219) in the second match.
The nine-day tournament has drawn the participation of 163 chess players from around the world, including 35 grandmasters.
Le Quang Liem is the only Super Grandmaster competing at the event.
