Vietnam won three of its matches at the AFC U23 Championship 2020 qualifiers and progressed to the finals of the tournament which is scheduled to take place in January next year in Thailand.
Aside from Thailand, who qualified for the tournament as hosts, Vietnam is the only representative of the Southeast Asian region to have progressed to the next stage. Let’s review the individuals who helped this historical achievement take place:
Head coach Park Hang Seo passed on his vast tactical knowledge through coaching which helped Vietnam’s U23 reach success.
Striker Ha Duc Chinh scored two goals in three matches during the qualifiers, including one against Brunei’s U23s and another against Thailand U23s.
Hanoi FC’s player Nguyen Thanh Chung played well in both defense and attack, creating two goals for his side.
Trieu Viet Hung scored a vital goal in the final minute to take the match against Indonesia 1-0.
Deputy captain Nguyen Hoang Duc (No. 14) enjoyed good performances in all three matches. He scored the second goal in the win against Thailand thanks to a pass from captain Quang Hai.
Tran Thanh Son (No. 8) served as the second deputy captain of Vietnam’s U23s. He assisted one goal against Thailand U23’s.
Captain Nguyen Quang Hai produced a string of excellent performances during the AFC U23 Championship qualifiers. He scored in the 6-0 win over Brunei’s U23s during the first match.
Huynh Tan Sinh won strong both in defensive and attack. He scored one goal in the qualifying round of the AFC U23 Championship.
