Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) General Director Vu Hai and the Government Public Relations Department of Thailand (PRD) Deputy Director, Dr Charoon Chaisorn presided over the meeting with the participation of leaders of the two sides’ departments.
He hoped that the strong development of VOV and PRD will lay a firm foundation for a close and effective cooperation in the future, helping foster mutual understanding between the two countries’ people in the context of formation of the ASEAN Community (AC).
For his part, Dr Charoon Chaisorn showed his surprise at the strong growth of VOV, especially since VTC merged into VOV.
‘It has been 17 years since our cooperation started in 1999. The cooperative areas have now extended from radio into television, news, and information via the Internet as well as exchange of visits by media practitioners,” he said.
He affirmed that both VOV and PRD play crucial roles in promoting images of the two countries’ land, people, culture and tourism, especially after the AC is formed.
At the meeting, participants proposed many initiatives and agreed on measures to increase the sharing of information and cooperation in audio/visual broadcasting and news and current affairs exchange.
They agreed on the exchange of their staff to share experience and skills and make programmes in various areas of interests spanning from economics, social affairs to lifestyle.
They consented to include reports about ASEAN to be covered in their radio/TV news reports or documentaries so as to raise public awareness of the regional grouping’s integration.
