Accidents killed about 2,860 people and left approximately 5,850 others injured, down 5.45% and 17.32%, respectively. Road crashes accounted for half of total cases, or over 3,190, claiming about 2,790 lives and injuring 1,945 people. There were more than 1,640 traffic accidents between March 16 and April 15, killing nearly 670 and wounding more than 1,320. Estimates indicated that Vietnam recorded more than 22 traffic deaths per day during the period. Traffic police issued about 1.23 million traffic tickets during the first four months, including 739 tickets for railway violations and more than 58,000 for waterways. They collected about VND850.46 billion (US$38.2 million) in fines, seized 8,800 automobiles and 179,000 motorbikes and revoked more than 109,000 driving licenses.
