The event is part of activities marking the 45th anniversary of the two nations’ diplomatic ties (1969-2014).

Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Camilla Mellander said Vietnam has to regularly cope with natural disasters, which have adversely affected humans, businesses and the environment.

Providing support for Vietnam in preventing future natural disasters is an issue of Sweden’s concern, and the seminar gave the two countries a good chance to work hand in hand this field, the ambassador added.

At the event, Swedish experts and businesses presented new technology in search and rescue and adapting to natural disasters, such as marine monitoring airplanes, off-site hospitals, early warning systems and temporary toilets or houses for use in natural disaster stricken areas.

Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue (VNCSR) applauded the support of Sweden in the field while suggesting Vietnam should take more initiatives and apply specialized equipment in search and rescue activities.
