The PM made this request at a regular monthly cabinet meeting for July in Hanoi which examined solutions aimed at speeding up post-pandemic economic recovery and international integration.
At present at least three countries within the Schengen area – Germany, Spain, and the Czech Republic – have refused to recognise the new-style Vietnamese passport, making it difficult for citizens to travel between Vietnam and those countries.
They reasoned that the new passports issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security since July 1 lack information regarding the place of birth of the holders.
Without visas being issued, visitors have been unable to embark on outbound tours to those countries. Tour operators that execute outbound tours to the European market are also getting themselves into trouble, with some forced to adjust their itinerary.
