The Embassy launched a campaign on September 24 to call on its staff, overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese businesses operating in Laos to donate money to victims of the two typhoons. Half of the money was sent to Vietnam and the remainder was allotted to Lao victims through the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.
On behalf of the Lao Party, Government and people, Ms Khatthiya expressed her sincere thanks to the Vietnamese people for their valuable support, thus signifying the time-honoured ties of solidarity and mutual support of the two peoples.
In late July and early August, Typhoon Sonca caused flooding and landslides in 14 Lao provinces, killing 10 people and damaging the property and crops of Lao people.
