At midnight on November 29 military engineers safely disposed of an unexploded bomb weighing approximately 340kg, with the device being discovered by builders at a construction site on Cua Bac street.
It took highly-trained forces one hour to complete the process of safely disposing of the bomb.
For safety reasons, the capital’s authorities requested that local people do not use any telephones or walkie-talkies within a radius of 200 metres from the site.
The evening of November 29 also sees local residents living in the area asked to temporarily evacuate their homes for their own safety.
The discovery of the device occurred when workers found the bomb buried two metres underground at a construction site for the headquarters of the Power Transmission Corporation No 1 at 15 Cua Bac street.
Immediately after the bomb was reported to local authorities, traffic in the area was hastily restricted whilst soldiers from Hanoi’s Military High Command arrived at the site in order to both inspect and deactivate it.
Upon inspection of the unexploded device they found two detonators still intact. Police forces were immediately mobilised to take charge of the surrounding areas, with officers on duty around the clock to ensure the safety of local people.
