According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the temperature also fell to 0oC along with heavy rains at the Phia Oac mountain peak in the northern province of Cao Bang.
In the northern provinces, temperature during the day continued to drop sharply to 8oC in Sapa, Lao Cai province, 11oC in Hanoi and roughly 4oC at the Meo Vac mountainous district and 4.5oC at the Trung Khanh District in Cao Bang Province.
Temperatures tumbled to 10-13oC in the lowlands and in the midlands in the northern region.
The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said the cold spell will also be felt in central and south central provinces.In the northern localities alone, temperatures will continue to plunge with frost and snow in the mountainous areas from January 23 to January 27.
