The “Mizuiku - I love clean water" programme was initiated by the Suntory Holding Ltd of Japan in 2004. Vietnam was the first country other than Japan to implement this project, beginning in 2015. The programme focused its activities on educating children on the role of water on the planet and raising their awareness on the importance of water resources and water hygiene in daily life.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Nguyen Long Hai, Secretary of the the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, said that the programme has contributed to environment protection and climate change adaption over the past two years. He expressed his hope that it will raise children’s awareness about the importance of water resources.
After two years, the programme has organised more than 400 classes on the subject of water and 16 festivals with the participation of over 14,000 schoolchildren. It also funded the installation of eight water filter systems and build new toilets at 16 elementary schools.
