Vu Van Vien, director of the Hanoi Department of Transport announced the competition on January 12, saying that the city has tried in the past to address the problem by adding a lot of capacity by investing in infrastructure.

Now, he said the City is trying a different tact and looking for novel ideas from residents on how to best manage demand as well as capacity to solve the problems.

The first prize winner will receive US$200,000 while the second one gets US$100,000. Ideas for the contest will be accepted January 19-23 at the Hanoi Department of Transport offices located in Hanoi.
