About 461 locally transmitted cases were detected in 15 cities and provinces nationwide, mostly in southern provinces.
Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, registered 200 new cases, bringing its 24-hour caseload to 1,320.
The city which is implementing social distancing measures has prepared a scenario in which there would be 1,600 new cases a day and up to 10,000 new cases would be detected in the next five days.
The municipal administration said it is trying to locate and isolate all F0 cases in an effort to break chains of transmission.
Meanwhile, Binh Duong, an industrial hub in the south and a gateway to HCM City, recorded up to 140 new cases over the past six hours after logging no new cases in the morning or at noon of the same day.
Other southern localities uncovering new cases included Long An (33), Dong Nai (19), Dong Thap (8), Binh Phuoc (4), Tay Ninh (3), and Ba Ria – Vung Tau (1).
Elsewhere, 18 cases were confirmed in Phu Yen, 14 in Quang Ngai, 13 in Khanh Hoa , five in Hanoi, three in Tay Ninh, and one each in Vinh Phuc, Binh Dinh and Thai Binh.
The MoH also announced two imported cases in the southern province of Kien Giang. They both tested positive after crossing Ha Tien international bordergate into Kien Giang.
As of 06pm on July 10, Vietnam has confirmed 24, 377 positive cases following the resurgence of the virus on April 27, and 27,863 cases since the virus attacked in January 2020.
As many as 9,204 patients have recovered from the disease, including 220 announced on July 10, and 112 patients have died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses.
