Eight luxury cars and hundreds of mobile phones were destroyed in a massive fire in downtown Ho Chi Minh City on January 30. No casualties have been reported.

The blaze reportedly broke out in an auto garage on Cong Quynh Street in District 1 at around 11 a.m. on January 30 before spreading to a nearby mobile phone store.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at around 12:30 p.m.
The flames consumed eight luxury cars, including two Bentleys and two Mercedes Benzes, as six other cars were moved out of the garage safely.
The garage’s owner estimated that the blaze caused tens of billions of dong of damage.
Hong Thi Bach Yen, manager of the The Gioi Di Dong store, said the fire ran so fast that her staff failed to move a large volume of mobile phones, laptops and tablets worth around VND9 billion (US$405,000) in total out.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
