Fishing vessels docked at Dinh An fishing port in Tra Cu district laden with freshly caught shrimp and fish, signaling a bumper yield for the year.

Off-shore fishing vessels prepare the essential supplies of food, fuels, ice, and fresh water for voyages which can last for several months. Lang Chim, Dinh An, and Dong Cao fishing ports have been bustling with activity in recent days.

Fishermen say they were able to set out to sea on the fifth day of Tet instead of the ninth day as in previous years, thanks to the favourable weather.

The nearshore fishing vessels have been catching around 1-2 tons of fish and shrimp on each trip.

Le Thi My Duyen from Dinh An Town, Tra Cu District, an owner of two nearshore fishing vessels, says each trip can bring them nearly ten million Vietnam dong in profits.

Tra Vinh province has nearly 1,300 fishing vessels which catch around 60,000-70,000 tonnes of seafood every year.
