Many streets across the capital have national flags hung up in order to celebrate the Year of the Cat, according to the traditional custom.
Roads throughout Hanoi are covered in red.
Signs bearing traditional Tet slogans such as “Chuc mung nam moi”, or “Happy new year” in English, can be seen on many of Hanoi’s main streets.
Old Quarter streets, such as Hang Ngang and Hang Bong, are covered with national flags.

In Vietnam, the national flags are put up on special occasions, such as National Day (September 2), the founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3), and annual lunar New Year festival.
During this Tet holiday, workers have seven days off work, starting on January 20.
