Although the team fall to a 3-2 defeat away to the UAE and lose top spot in Group G, Vietnam still manage to advance to the third qualification round of the 2022 World Cup for the first time in their history due to to results elsewhere going their way.
Vietnam successfully make it through to the third qualifying round of the World Cup for the very first time. The next round of matches will take place between September and March, 2022. So far the team have received VND8 billion for their excellent performance in the World Cup qualifiers in the UAE.
The only Southeast Asian team to make it through is Vietnam, who are now one of the top 12 teams in Asia.
