The event marks the seventh time the competition has been held as part of an annual national festival to honour Hung Kings believed to be the founders of the Vietnamese nation.
As part of the festival, participants make Banh Chung and Banh Day, two traditional dishes which were offered to the Hung Kings. The competition takes place at the centre of the Hung Kings Temple historical relic site.
A total of 13 teams featuring 100 participants from across the country take part in the contest.
Each team is required to cook 10 Banh Chung using five kg of sticky rice, one kg of green beans, and one kg of pork within 10 minutes.
Upon completion the contestants must then display their cakes to be judged
Each team is also required to make 10 Banh Giay from five kg of sticky rice within a maximum of 45 minutes.
The contestants pound the sticky rice in order to make Banh Giay.

The cakes are neatly arranged within a tray before being judged.
Each cake is then labelled with the word “Phúc” meaning “Happiness”.
The two most outstanding teams for Banh Chung and Banh Giay are selected to offer the cakes to the Hung Kings as part of the Hung Kings Temple Festival 2022.
