The festival has been preserved over the course of many years as locals maintain traditions in order to welcome in the New Year.
The tournament brings together a total of 320 athletes from eight teams in Huong Thuy town of Thua Thien-Hue province.
There are two separate tournaments specifically designated for both male and female athletes. Each boat is manually operated by 10 crew members and one skipper, all of whom are fishermen and farmers.

The annual boat race aims to test the strength of solidarity, as well as showcasing the special culture, of Thua Thien-Hue province.
The festival gets underway annually following Tet as part of efforts to both maintain the tradition and to encourage the young generation to improve their health.
The first prize goes to Thuy Tan commune’s team, whilst the teams of Thuy Luong and Thuy Phuong wards win the second and third prizes.
