Sa Pa falls quiet amid national COVID-19 fight

VOV.VN - Local authorities and residents of Sa Pa town in Lao Cai province are doing their utmost to implement COVID-19 prevention and control measures, with the resort town facing a high risk of local transmission in the period following national public holiday.

A resident from Da Nang, who has since tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, visited Sa Pa during the recent four-day national public holiday. On May 5 the administration of the northern town moved to put 13 located related to the case into isolation.
Local healthcare workers have also been able to trace cases who came into contact with the COVID-19 patient. They are currently taking samples from these people, with individuals being immediately brought to quarantine areas.
Authorities mobilise cars fitted with loud speakers as a means of informing local people about the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Disinfection work is done in places related to the COVID-19 patient from Da Nang.
At the entrance to Sa Pa, check-points are set up in order to control people and vehicles as they head in and out of the town, with the primary aim to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2.
All non-essential services are temporarily suspended in Sa Pa, with students in all schools permitted to stay at home until May 9.
The resort town is left deserted at night.
No bustling areas can be seen in the centre of Sa Pa town as is typical on normal days.
The majority of local restaurants are forced to shut down to deal with COVID-19.
The town’s famous night market also closes.
Functional agencies endure sleepless nights as they prepare for emergency cases.
Vuong Trinh Quoc, chairman of Sa Pa town’s administration, urges local people to limit travelling, along with making healthcare declarations in order to prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
