The majority of gardeners in Ha Mo commune come from Tay Tuu flower village in Tay Ho district of Hanoi as they tend to hire land in order to grow lilies. This is due to the land in the area around the commune being particularly good for the growth of this type of flower.
At present the flowers are in harvest season, with the lilies also being known as the flowers of April as they only enter full bloom once a year during April.
The white colours of the flowers helps make them an elegant sight for visitors.
Oanh, who runs a business in Tay Tuu flower village, says the prices of the flowers seem to be stable following the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, thereby making sellers more happy due to the increase in purchases.
Lilies tend to be harvested at the end of April, with a new crop beginning from July.
A buyer says she is able to sell each bunch of 100 flowers for between VND160,000 and VND200,000.
Lilies are typically considered to be a symbol of April in the capital as they are sold by street vendors on many roads throughout Hanoi.
