VOV.VN - Despite COVID-19 warnings and a ban on large gatherings, several makeshift markets have been seen operating in Hanoi capital, posing a greater risk of potentially spreading the virus among the community.

Though local authorities request that makeshift markets temporarily close as part of the country’s fight against COVID-19, one site selling secondhand items operates at the intersection of Le Duan and Dai Co Viet streets in the capital.
From 5 a.m. on May 24 hundreds of locals can be seen gathering to purchase goods at the market, ignoring the fact the pandemic continues to develop in a complicated way across the capital.
On sale at the location are plenty of second hand clothes and items. Indeed, many people do not even wear face masks when going to the market.
A range of old items are put on display on the pavement around the area, whilst many motorbikes are left carelessly by shoppers.
According to locals, the makeshift market had initially been set up to serve people who often do their morning exercise in nearby areas.
The market has quickly gained popularity when people from other areas heard about it and paid a visit to purchase items.
The market is usually only open for about two hours in the early morning, attracting hundreds of visitors.
The gathering is quickly resolved once on-duty officials arrive and request that sellers and buyers move on. They also issue warnings about imposing strong punishments on law-breakers.
