The Cua Ong Temple Festival was officially recognised as an intangible part of national cultural heritage back in 2017.
Cua Ong temple overlooks the magnificent Bai Tu Long Bay.
The occasion takes place between the first and the fourth days of the second lunar month each year.
The majority of pilgrims don face masks in line with the Health Ministry’s guidelines on COVID-19 prevention.
The traditional festival falls during with the spring, coinciding with flowers entering full bloom, thereby creating romantic scenery around Cua Ong temple.
Cua Ong temple is dedicated to Tran Quoc Tang, the third son of Tran Hung Dao, the supreme commander of Vietnam. He became a hero in the resistance war against the Mongol invaders under the Tran Dynasty during the 11th century. The festival serves to commemorate his various contributions to defeating numerous enemies and bringing peace to the region.
A notice is put up at Cua Ong temple to remind worshippers of the Health Ministry’s 5K message: Khau trang (facemask), (Khu khuan) disinfection, (Khoang cach) distance, (Khong tu tap) no gathering, and (Khai bao y te) health declaration.
Since March 3, Cua Ong temple has received more than 18,000 arrivals. The number of tourists is expected to reach approximately 3,000 arrivals per day in the coming days.
