The initial batch to arrival at Noi Bai International Airport is part of a wider commitment of 80 million COVID-19 vaccine doses pledged by US President Joe Biden which will be shared throughout the world.
Currently the US has supplied the nation with more than five million doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine as part of its donation of 23 million doses to 20 countries and territories throughout Asia.
So far the country has received over 14 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines through various international sources.
Specialised trucks are mobilised at the airport in order to transfer the shipment of vaccines to cold storage locations.
The Moderna vaccine is developed from messenger RNA, or mRNA, which contains instructions for human cells to construct a harmless piece of COVID-19 known as spike protein, a process which then triggers an immune response in humans.
A total of 53 countries and territories globally have been using this method, including the US, Canada, the EU, the UK, Israel, and Singapore.
