Vietnamese trade counsellor in Algeria Hoang Duc Nhuan said generally speaking, Vietnam’s export turnover to the North African nation has seen a positive growth.
However, the country will find it difficult to achieve the 2017’s target of US$300 million as Algeria has tightened import-export policies, which hindered activities of foreign businesses including Vietnamese enterprises.
In September, Vietnam’s export revenue decreased sharply to over US$13 million over the previous months. Especially, Vietnam’s phone and component exports saw a decline in June and July and no shipment to Algeria was reported in August and September.
Mr Nhuan said Vietnam’s trade office in Algeria has strictly co-ordinated with relevant agencies in the resident country to find solutions to help Vietnamese businesses remove difficulties.
Algeria now ranks third among Vietnam’s importers in Africa, after South Africa and Egypt.
