According to a government statement, Mr Thao updated Mr Avalos on some of the areas where he believed the two countries could further strengthen their relationship, one of which was regarding the millions of Paraguay tourists that leave their homeland each year to travel overseas on vacation.

While the Ambassador acknowledged that many residents of Paraguay are aware of Southeast Asia and Vietnam, he noted that many of them were not familiar with exactly where the country is located or what sightseeing options exist.

The government said in its statement that the leaders discussed tourism in considerable depth, as well as opportunities regarding international business, reinsurance and investment potential.

The leaders also discussed in detail an initiative proposed by the Vietnam government to create a free trade region among the economies of Vietnam, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Later in the day, Ambassador Thao extended an invitation to leaders of the Paraguay Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade along with representatives of Paraguay businesses to join a food expo in Vietnam this coming November.
