The move will present a good opportunity for Vietnamese pomelos to conquer the US market in the near future, said MARD Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam, adding US authorities are also considering whether or not to open the door for Vietnamese coconuts.
He suggested that businesses who are keen on exporting the fruit to the US work alongside Vietnamese plant quarantine units in order to complete necessary documents as a way of swiftly exporting pomelos to this lucrative market.
According to the Department of Crop Production under the MARD, Vietnam has 105,400 hectares under pomelo cultivation, with a total output of approximately 950,000 tonnes.
From now until the first quarter of 2022, farmers will harvest roughly 140,000 tonnes of pomelos.
