Hanoi topped the list of provinces and cities across the country for attracting FDI. It granted investment licenses to 492 projects with a total registered capital of US$5.18 billion and agreed for an additional 140 projects to increase their capital of US$727 million and for 543 foreign investors to spend US$440 million buying shares of Vietnamese businesses.

In 10 months, the capital city had 21,169 newly-established firms with a combined registered capital of VND230 trillion, up 3% in volume and 40% in registered capital compared to the same period in 2017.  

Despite this, as many as 1,309 businesses were dissolved whilst 5,587 businesses stopped operation. However, 2,807 businesses did resume their operation. Overall, Hanoi currently has 251,065 businesses.
