The closing session saw the presence of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. In her closing speech, the top legislator said the NA approved 6 bills, which are important to national development and commented on 9 other bills to improve the legal system related to socialist-oriented market economy, defense, security, social order, human rights, and prevention of corruption and wastefulness.NA deputies deliberated major reports on implementing national targets for gender equality, settlement of complaints, judicial work, law enforcement, and anti-corruption. They also also passed several resolutions, which are expected to have a strong impact on socio-economic development.The Q&A session focused on finance, banking, communications, and court trials. Deputies questioned the Prime Minister on governance. 

Chairwoman Ngan said, “The Q&A session was conducted in a constructive, democratic, and upbeat manner to hold cabinet members accountable. This also showed the competence of deputies. The Prime Minister and his Ministers answered clearly and candidly and set out solutions, which are applauded by deputies and the public.

She said the session reflects the spirit of reform and innovation.

“During the session, there were some important external activities to boost parliamentary diplomacy and friendly cooperation among parliaments and countries. In particular, the National Assembly applauded the success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, which helped elevate Vietnam’s position worldwide and open new opportunities for national development," she noted.

The NA leader called on deputies to be more active in law building, oversight, and meeting with voters to listen to their aspirations. She also urged relevant agencies to take steps to implement newly-approved laws.
