Directed by Pham Ngoc Lan, the film will compete for the Golden Bear awards against other competitors from numerous countries. The 25 minute film features a group of office staff, depicting urban loneliness. According to producer Ngo Dai Trang, the production cost US$8,000, of which US$6,000 came from the Denmark – Vietnam Cultural Development and Exchange Fund. It took a year to prepare and 12 days to shoot in Hanoi and Cao Bang, said Trang. “Thanh pho khac” gave the 29-year-old director the opportunity to take part in the Berlinale Talents Campus in February last year. Last year, another Vietnamese film – the “Cha va con va…” (Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories) directed by Phan Dang Di – was also nominated for best film at the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival. Founded in 1951, the film festival is one of the most prestigious events in the world.
