This year’s event expected to attract the participation of 2,000 people is part of a series of activities to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Vietnam.

The program will begin with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by a speech delivered by Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish. Participants will have the opportunity to watch a traditional Indian dance performance.

Indian consul general in HCMC Smita Pant told a press conference to announce the upcoming event in HCMC on June 15 that the event will open up more opportunities for yoga enthusiasts in the city to practice yoga under the instructions of Indian yoga masters to improve their physical health and learn more about the unique culture of India.

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice having its origin in India, which aims to transform both body and mind. On December 11 in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

The declaration came after the call for the adoption of June 21 as International Day of Yoga by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014.

The event slated to last one hour and a half will be broadcast live on HTV television channels.
