“It’s an opportunity to revel in some of the globe’s most beautiful landscapes, from an altitude of 100-150 metres, high above the fray,” said Elly Tran, the event’s ambassador.

“It’s the kind of worthwhile splurge that I’ll be talking about long after I’m back on solid ground.”

On average, baskets carry four to eight people, with prices starting as low as US$7.50 up to US$300.

Visitors turn out in droves to watch as hundreds of jaunty balloons ascend en masse into the cerulean skies above Hue.

It is one of this year’s most photographed events at the festival.

One young suitor proposed to his fiancée while on board one of the flights over the holiday.

“Most rides last 30-45 minutes,” said Miss Tran, with flights running 5:30 am to 8:00 am and from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm through May 5.

Whether visitors choose a short or longer tour, said Miss Tran, their spirits are destined to soar.
