The jewellery was specially designed to convey a message of hope for everlasting peace and prosperity between the two nations by jewellers at the Hoang Gia Pearl Co, Ltd. 
  
It comprises 30 rare black pearls harvested on the company’s farms in the central coastal area of Vietnam.

But don't be looking for the first lady to be wearing the dazzling gems anytime soon. By law, gifts of this nature to US officials must be turned over to the government and sent to the National Archives.

That is unless the recipient, the First Lady in this instance, chooses to purchase the items from the US General Services Administration at their fair market value.
