The opening ceremony was held at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi this morning by the Department of Publishing, Printing, and Issuing under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao said the Autumn Book Festival is a practical activity that contributes to building an educated society and developing an advanced culture imbued with national identity.
It also creates a golden opportunity for publishers to introduce their books to Vietnamese readers, he added.
During the festival, a number of exchange programmes will be held, along with various educational and entertainment activities to encourage the reading movements and introduce hi-tech applications in information and communications technology.
This year, the event has drawn 55 publishers and distributors with more than 65 booths introducing a wide range of new books.
It is hoped that the event will strengthen the local reading culture and become a link between publishing houses and Vietnamese readers.
Many new and interesting books are on display.
The book festival not only attracts the attention of young people,

but also the elderly.
Plenty of discounts are offered at the event.

The festival will run until August 26.
