The 5-day festival running April 28-May 2 has attracted the participation of hundreds of artists and artisans from throughout Vietnam, said Nguyen Van Thanh, chair of the local people’s committee, at the opening.

They are presenting works in more than a dozen major handicraft fields including paper paintings, lantern-making, paper flowers, bronze casting, knitting of mats, embroidery, glass paintings, kite making and traditional weaving.

The event, he said, will showcase an estimated 2,000 products including bamboo lamps, tea pot trays, chairs, table sets, lanterns, and decorative rattan pieces.

It will also feature the roughly 200 embroidery shops in the city, showing off their artistry and elaborate products.

Hue conical hats with poems transcribed under the leaf layers are another special attraction at the festival.

Pottery and terracotta products from the north, fabric woven by the H’re people in Quang Ngai Province and baked bricks and mosquito-fern mats from southern Vinh Long are also on exhibit.

An Ao Dai fashion show on the Truong Tien Bridge is also a planned highlight of the event, said Thanh.

He added that women wearing Ao Dai during the festival will get free cyclo rides.
